Mailchimp is where most small businesses start with email, and for good reason. The interface is clean, the templates are ready to use from the beginning, and the onboarding process is one of the most accessible in the market.

It is not the deepest platform available, and its pricing has increased notably since Intuit acquired it in 2021. But for the right business, it remains a solid choice. The key is knowing where it works well and where its limits start to show.

Mailchimp performs best for businesses in the early stages of building an email programme. Independent retailers and local service businesses sending regular newsletters, coaches and freelancers managing a subscriber list, non-profits and community organisations with modest budgets, and content creators who want clean, templated campaigns without a technical setup all tend to find it fits well.

It is less suited to ecommerce brands that need complex automation or deep behavioural segmentation. Once a list grows past 5,000 contacts and flows become more involved, the platform starts to feel limited. There are better options at that point.
